Book is here - yahoooo!!

Bookishere

Didn't take long for my book to arrive. Yayyy!!

Made the order at noq.asia late on May 10th, confirmation received the next day... and the book arrived on May 15th. Wheeeee!!!

It's pretty thick... and I'm still halfway through A Feast For Crows... so not sure when I'll start reading this. But so far, the experiment is producing some good results and my heart rate is responding. :)

Soya

Laoban

There's a new food stall at OUB and the line for this simple soya dessert thingie is *always* long! Or the store is always closed for business.

I finally got a couple of bowls one morning, wondering what was the fuss with this new craze at Raffles Place.

Now I know!

It's almost custardy and doesn't have that taste of soya. I think they use brown sugar of some sort and gelatine to set the soya.

I bought a similar thing from one of those temporary stalls at Raffles Exchange. There was no line for it. Now I know why.

Greek Yogurt

Greekyogurtbrkfst

Because I am too cheap to buy a $14 tub of Fage :P I successfully made Greek yogurt yesterday.

This was today's breakfast - not a very pretty breakfast parfait, but was darn good! Greek yogurt + chunks of fresh mango + toasted oats and almonds.

The rest of the Greek yogurt was made into ranch dressing. Enjoyed it dipped with  baby carrots and cut cucumber :P Maybe if I keep this going, I'll finally lose that last 2 kg...

How to make Greek yogurt:
What you'll need
  • A $7 tub of Yoplait Yoplus
  • A large strainer
  • Several large coffee filters, trim the seamed edges and line the strainer.
  • Follow instructions here.

Blue skies

The wrath of the weather gods: it's either the drencher of a rain or the merciless shine. Take your pick.

Sunday

7am, there was not a cloud in the sky.

10am, I finished my brutally slow long run in the heat... 20 shades darker. Thank you very much for the unnecessary tan and overdose of Vit D.

Purple Carrots

Note: Photos were not 'shopped.

These are... purple carrots!! They do look more black than purple tough. Maybe after scrubbing the colour will show.

I was so amazed the entire nite. Call me... kiasu :P First time seeing these. But then, I hardly explore the vegetables section - they're always crowded and I am usually there just to grab broccoli, baby spinach and tomatoes afterwhich I'm rushing out for air and personal space within 1 minute.

Surprisingly, the hypermart was hardly crowded yesterday - what a rare treat! And as I was searching for asparagus, I found these. Three for a buck. Not bad.

So as I was Googling [doncha luv Google...], I learn that purple carrots are:
  • an ancient root vege, much older than the regular orange carrots
  • are packed with anti-oxidants
  • rich in anti-inflammatory properties
  • 28 times more anthocyanins than the orange carrots
  • full of vitamins
  • good for ya!!
Ok, one of these will go into the juicer together with beetroot tonite, and some into stir-fry and the rest in the fridge :)

I've Finally Found You

Beetrootjuice

Quest of the week: Find beetroot. Buy beetroot. Make beetroot juice.

So I looked harder and found it within 3 minutes. Everything seems easier when the hypermarket is not crowded...

The beetroot on this side of the planet don't look like turnip. Nor do they look like radish. They look like elephant's turd. Especially when left on the ground. :P Who would have thought an ugly vegetable can have so many nutrients!

First time, with no recipe at hand, was a success. Woohoooo!

1 small beetroot, washed and cut [don't have to peel the skin]
2 Granny Smith apples, washed and cut
3 medium size carrots, washed

Put everything in the juicer, add ice in the cup and you got your iron and B vitamins for the day :) So yummy, someone asked for seconds :P

Whyyyyy

Catbitme

What a lovely late afternoon. Cool breeze, sun shining. Great for a run.

I hope I see that cat on my way home, I was thinking.

Sure enough, she was sitting, watching the birds from her usual corner, near the bus stop.

She's a different breed from the rest. She has this cute and small heart-shaped face, big eyes and a body frame so small, you'd think she's a teenager. But I think she has been around longer than that.

She loves people and she's so smart, she blows my mind every time she climbs up the stairs with me and follows me across the pedestrian bridge! When I return an hour or two later after my run, I'll find her chillaxing at her usual corner. Amazing.

She doesn't talk and she doesn't purr when I pet her. I wish I knew what she sounds like. She luuuuvvvs to do the number 8 around my legs and she loves to rub her face on my smelly shoes. I usually let her do that for a few seconds, but today I was extra generous - 3 minutes.

And then... without warning... she BITES me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You'd think after hurting a nice human, ie me, a cat would run away in fear. Especially after hearing me scream and kicking my leg out like a lunatic. No. This little thing still had the cheek to follow me! But with a bitchy attitude. LOL! You're not so cute anymore, I said in my mind :P

Well, +1 to battle wound. Usually it's sports bra vs me. But this time, cat vs me.

:P
