A Feast For Crows

Afeastforcrowsss

On to book 4 of the Song of Ice and Fire series, A Feast For Crows.

All the copies are on loan, so it took a little longer than usual to get my copy reserved. And it looks this will take me a few weeks longer to complete now that I'm also in the midst of gaming addiction :P I hate when that happens - nothing else gets done! But killing demons is so fun!!! :P

BTW, what's in that sundae glass you ask? Milo Dinosaur :)

Polar - Replacing Batteries

Polartransmitter

My Polar heart rate transmitter died on me. I felt so lost without it, not knowing how many calories I burned...

Unlike the old transmitter, the battery is replaceable. But, I almost ruined it.

After 2 days, so many tools, reading suggestions on the Polar forum, and almost losing a finger trying to pry the door open with a $1 coin, I finally got it opened! God is great! And so is a flat-head screwdriver.

EDM's New Pouch Packaging

Been a while since I ordered anything from EDM. When I saw their 25% off offer for 3 Big Items, I gave in and got myself an everyday bronzer, it base and a kabuki brush. Along with that order, I received some samples. They used to put the samples in little pots with sifters, but I suppose putting scant amounts of mineral powder in little pouches is more "green". I think some of the pouches didn't have more than half a teaspoonful worth of powder. So little, after one use and it's gone. But I think the two eye makeup colours will last a bit longer - I am not so crazy about their eye colours. Too many red tones and the colours don't seem to pop.

Sundown 2012 in the City

Sundown

Sundown 2012 will happen in the city on a Saturday nite!

Oh noes. Not the muddy Padang again! And the 45 degree steep Benjamin Shears bridge. And dedicated single-lane traffic human slaughter jam. And Sat nite road traffic carbon monoxide to inhale :( :( And if the route takes us to Marina Barrage... got PAP [pontianak atas pokok] there pulak. Yikes!!

Oh well. I guess all that is better than being stuck in a bus-from-hell at Changi for 2 hours. Hahaa! Epic!

Burger

P1060140_-_sophiaold

I am not a BK fan but couldn't pass up on Groupon's BK $2.95 deal last week, so I just bought one coupon.

I don't expect much from specials, and I never expect much from BK's burgers either, but for once, BK did a decent job with this burger. Doesn't look appetising in the pic, but upon opening the top bun, I found a generous scatter of pale lettuce. Yay @ quantity, not quality! And considering this was under $3, I was surprised at how big this burger was. My lunch time mandarin orange was placed next to it for size reference :P

The Nacho burger wasn't crispy as advertised, but it was tasty, filled me up to the brim, made me feel almost sick afterwards and regret I didn't buy another coupon. Hehee.

Eggs Ben

Eggsben

More like eggs ben-yek. :P

I made hollandaise sauce from scratch the other day [will try not to remind myself that it's raw eggs and butter] and that'd be perfect on poached eggs.

So this was last nite's dinner, which, did not last me long. Two hours later, I was starving! Thank God for frozen chapati and frozen leftovers from Eid :P

Lifesavers For A Runner - Part 1

Desitin

While struggling 36km-week runs some winks ago, I came up with a slogan for my chafing problem:

Desitin : The Sting or The Stink.

Yes, this little lifesaver makes me smell like a fish monger in an instant, but works so great for runners like me who otherwise yelp in showers.

A definite "must-bring" in my marathon backpack next week.

PS: Survived my longest mileage week ever - 43km last week. Phew!! So glad that's over.

I Am... SuperHuman?

Runkeeperwonky

So I really shouldn't argue with a sophisticated app and GPS system, right.

Either my memory is failing or something supernatural happened this morning, coz I thought I went out for an easy 10km run this morning, but RunKeeper says I ran a whopping 691 KILOMETRES in 1hr 27mins... !!!!

The map even shows I swam in the Straits of Malacca! I ran and I swam... Take that, AquaMan! :P

So... am I superhuman or what?! :P Maybe I should consider a career switch. Move over Kara, here comes ThundaThighs Gal :P

Some Call It Snot

All these work deadlines are just making me stressed that, for relief, I had to shift my thoughts, go a little overboard and...

...buy a box of energy gels. That is 24 packets of goo!

:P

But I need them! I swear, I need them!! At the rate this training is going, I'm going to need at least a dozen. Do the math: GNC sells the GUs for $3.90 each x 12 = a whopping and wallet-burning almost $50!! So I found a local "lobang" on FB, got bored yesterday, emailed them enquiries, and then bang, a box of Clif Shots in my hands by the afternoon.

I also got three tubes of Clif Shot Bloks and a tube of nuun's Lemon Tea flavour - the thought of drinking cold iced tea while running on a hot day is mmmMMMmmmmMMM - both were also at a really good deal.

Not sure how much I saved - around $30+ - but now I have a good supply of energy gels for the tough long runs to last me a year, if I'm lucky :)

Hope the new formula Clif Shots taste good. I know, they say never try anything new especially when buying in bulk, but I got all the mocha, chocolate and chocolate-cherry flavours, so I don't think they can go wrong with that. And they are organic! And certified kosher! So why not :)

Here's the link to my new "lobang" energygeladdict.com . Just helping to spread the word around :) as I usually do when I find a gem along the way. Buy a box, split with friends, try new products [may help motivate you to go for a long run :P ] and stay healthy!
